Employees from the Elsevier division of RELX Group spent Sept. 14 at YSI’s Baring House Crisis Nursery, playing and engaging in educational activities with the children in care there. The event was in honor of RELX’s RE Cares Day and was the latest form of support from the company, which donated $15,000 this year to fund YSI’s Teen Success Program.

Baring House provides a short-term care program for children at risk of harm or neglect ranging in age from newborn to five.

“We are always excited to work with YSI because its mission is so close to the RE Cares mission. The Baring House Crisis Nursery provides such a valuable service to our community,” said Susan Clark, RE Cares Champion and Associate Team Leader of Journal Management and Global Journals Production, North America. “Children who otherwise might be in a less than ideal circumstance are surrounded by love at Baring House. The staff is second to none. Rather than just providing a place for these at-risk kids to stay, they are offered educational activities, nutritious meals, and treated with love and respect.

“I’ll also admit that working with the kids is a joy. It’s impossible not to leave with a smile on your face after you’ve spent the day singing, reading, and playing with these bright, inquisitive youngsters. Free hugs are a definite plus to volunteering here!”

RELX Group is a global provider of information and analytics for professional and business customers.   The mission of the company’s community outreach program, RE Cares, focuses on education for disadvantaged young people that furthers universal, sustainable access to information; advancement of science and health; the rule of law and access to justice; and the protection of society.
