Mother’s Day: Janet’s Story

For decades YSI has been supporting mothers and their children and supporting healthy family relationships. Making a gift today, helps ensure mothers like Janet and her family get the help they need, when it’s most critical:   

Janet, a mother of five, came to YSI’s Family Reunification program for support as three of her children, between the ages of 9-17 entered out of home placement for the first time due to unstable housing. The teen came to Youth Emergency Service (YES), YSI’s emergency youth shelter. The Family Reunification staff worked to help Janet find stable housing. While at YES, the teen received a safe place to stay, healthy meals, enriching activities and regular conferences with her mother to stay connected. Through resources provided by the Family Reunification program, Janet obtained a rental property to ensure a stable living environment for her and her family. Janet was also referred to parenting groups through YSI as additional support and reduce isolation.  With the supports YSI was able to provide and her hard work, Janet will be reunified with her family at their next court date.
