Reflection: When Services Connect – YSI’s Baring House Crisis Nursery and PEC Empower Together

LongtAngie Maury Teacher Demonstrating Skill to Childrenime YSI-Baring House Crisis Nursery Director, Angie Maury reflected on a special moment back in 2014 as a mother and grandmother found hope within the walls of PEC and YSI. The family lived together with a two-year old son and had become PEC residents trying to find stability and refuge. Mom enrolled her son into Baring House and he immediately was drawn to the staff. She was able to use this Nursery as a steppingstone to help her focus on completing high school, then went on to enroll in a nursing program. She became part of Team Success at Baring House. Grandmother enrolled in PEC’s food service training and was able to qualify for permanent housing where the family lives today.

Angie was recently invited to present a book she wrote commemorating this Baring House family called “The Village of Nanny and Grands” at the 2022 National Black Child Development Institute Conference in Washington D.C.
